(AP)-It may seem more polite to hold back a sneeze, but health experts are urging people to give in to the "ahchoo" in order to avoid serious injuries.

The journal B-M-J Case Reports details one case where a man was barely able to speak or swallow after rupturing his throat when he pinched his nose and clamped his mouth shut to contain a sneeze.

The report also warns holding back a sneeze could rupture an undetected aneurysm in the brain.

One ear, nose and throat specialist at University Health Network in Toronto says he's never seen anything like that, but suppressing sneezes can build up pressure in the middle ear, potentially bursting an eardrum.
