Driver, 8 passengers survive Eddyville crash
EDDYVILLE, Iowa —
A van full of passengers are OK after crashing into a ditch in Eddyville Thursday.
Around 12:20 p.m., Monroe County deputies were called to Highway 137 near Cargill Corn Milling, where the westbound van ran off the right side of the road.
Chief Deputy Ken Hollingsworth told KTVO there were eight special needs passengers and their driver inside.
The driver, with Monroe County Professional Management, told deputies one of the passengers grabbed the steering wheel, causing the van to run off the road.
Hollingsworth said everyone appeared to be OK at the scene; however, a few of the passengers were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The deputy told us he will not be issuing any citations.
