110-year-old county jail demolished
MACON, MO. —
Heavy equipment demolished the 110-year-old former Macon County Jail on Thursday.
Crews arrived around 8 a.m. Thursday to begin tearing down the building.
Macon County Sheriff Kevin Showemaker told KTVO the jail was built in the early 1900s.
The new jail and sheriff's office are located right across the street from the old building.
Crews will be working through Friday to completely clear off the plot of land.
The area will be turned into a new parking lot.
