2013 was a record breaking year for a Heartland non-profit organization.
The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri distributed about 36 million pounds of food last year.
It was a huge increase from the 23 million pounds of food distributed in 2012.
They served to over 35,000 households in 32 counties.
For the food bank, it shows that the need for donations to feed the hungry is still there.
"Mostly monetary. A dollar to The Food Bank equals to 15 pounds of food so we can stretch it more and get more food with that and bring it back to the community to all the different pantries here," said Susan Dublin of The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.
Dublin said she thanks the thousands of volunteers who put in the hours to help. About 45,000 volunteers did over 105,000 hours of service in 2013.
In Adair County alone about 680,000 pounds of food was distributed in 2013.
