4-H youths help horses strut their stuff at horse show

The Wapello County 4-H Expo is in full swing and Tuesday it was all about the horses at the horse show at the Greater Ottumwa Parks Arena.

Talented 4-H youths helped their horses strut their stuff for the judges.

We spoke to 16-year-old Katie Larkin, of Chillicothe, who has been showing horses for the past five years. This is her horse's first year of showing.

â??It's really a lot of fun. I really enjoy showing horses. I just, it's a passion of mine and I encourage a lot of people to come out and do it because Iâ??m sure everybody would have a lot of fun, even just to come out and watch. It's a blast especially watching the games and stuff, but itâ??s really enjoyable and I love doing it,â?? said Larkin.

Larkin said the judges look for the composition of the horse, including how the neck ties into the shoulder. She added that itâ??s also important to have a well groomed horse.

For Larkin, the games are her favorite part of the competition.
