5K run paints outside the lines
One of the happiest 5K runs on the planet made it's way to the Heartland on Saturday.
Hundreds packed the Macon County Fairgrounds for the Color Run.
The Samaritan Hospital and Shoes from the Heart hosted the unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness, individuality and giving back to the community.
Hundreds of participants were doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer.
"There are four color zones and what we're going to do with the color zones is it's a 5k, so they'll start at the beginning, run through a color, get sprayed with all kinds of paint," said Meghan Dutton, a color run organizer and R.N. at the Samaritan Hospital. "Then they'll run to the next color and at the end we'll have a huge celebration where everybody throws color up together to celebrate."
The colored powder created happiness and lasting memories, not to mention millions of vivid color combinations all while improving health and wellness.
Organizers only expected 100 people to show up, but the turn out was nearly triple, with close to 300 participants.
There were no winners or official times, so everyone enjoyed the fun!
The event helped promote healthy and active lives.
