A community rallies in support of a local family
Community members in the city of Kirksville have created a fund-me web page to collect donations for the Dovin family.
The father, John Dovin, is fighting pancreatic cancer and their ten year old son, Jansen, is recovering from a heart transplant.
John has undergone chemotherapy and radiation and he is expecting to have a surgical procedure performed Wednesday.
Community members are saying, â??The family is in need of love and support.â??
â??A community of this size rallying behind a family. There are many out there, but they need the support of this community. What can we do for them at this point? I think that is financial. We can help them with their financial needs and the family hasn't asked for anything. These are community members recognizing this need and we're trying to help them,â?? said family friend Troy Mihalevich.
A special benefit for the family will be held at the Moose Lodge in Kirksville on Saturday, June 28 at 6:00 p.m. An auction will begin at 8:00 p.m. followed by a dance.
If you're unable to make the benefit, you can click here for more information on donating money to the family for medical expenses or you can donate at the American Trust Bank in Kirksville.
