Kirksville, MO - With the start of Missouri's turkey season, 12 young hunters get the chance to take the field in search of gobblers.
The Youth Turkey Clinic started by learning about the biology and management of turkeys, including rules and how to chase them down.
The group learned lots of things from conservation specialists, from how to do a turkey call to what the birds act like in nature.
Saturday the young outdoor enthusiasts, along with guides, will head out to different parts of the region to give it their best shot at bringing back their first turkey, but if nothing else, they'll hopefully have a fun and safe time.
â??The experience, it's to get them to enjoy the outdoors is the main thing and we want them to be successful. Being successful doesn't necessarily mean they get to harvest a bird, but if they get to hear them gobble and get to work with the birds it's a great experience,â?? said Rob Garver-Outdoor Skills Specialist.
The crews are headed to Linn and Lewis counties and will be hunting on private land.
