A local organization helps put new shoes on your childs feet

A local organization is continuing their mission with this yearâ??s Shoefest.

Shoes from the Heart is an organization that provides shoes to those in need throughout 21 counties.

Volunteers will be at Jackson Street Park in Macon on Saturday, July 12 to measure feet and hand out brand new shoes to kids in Macon County.

Since its start in 2012, the organization has helped over 525 children in Macon County.

The event is open to all community members; even those who are not in need of a brand new pair of shoes are encouraged to join in on the festivities.

Parents must register when they arrive and provide their name, address and phone number.

Last year, Shoes from the Heart was able to hand out 1,100 pairs of shoes.

â??Itâ??s really amazing to see their face light up because they got something new and to take ownership of it and itâ??s a really neat experience,â?? said Donnie Bonuchi, co-founder for Shoes from the Heart.

This weekendâ??s event is open to those in Macon County but Shoes from the Heart will eventually make its way to the other 21 counties.
