A local woman's legacy brings people near and far to the Heartland

The American Red Cross teams up with The Kurz' s for a blood drive at Mary Immaculate.

Nurse Bridget Kurz of Kirksville was killed in a car accident three years ago, but her family teams up with the American Red Cross to continue her legacy.

The family hosts a community blood drive at the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church because they say Bridget spent her life caring for other people.

The blood drive is typically every November and the family exceeds their donor goal each drive.

â??It's really inspiring because a lot of her old friends and classmates make it a point to come every year and a lot of them don't live around here anymore, so they travel and make a trip back every year for this weekend, just to give in her memory. Itâ??s really just very inspiring for our whole family to see everybody come out and donate,â?? said Bridgetâ??s older sister.

Next year, the drive will be held in November. Click here for more information.
