A new art exhibit on display at the Kirksville Arts Center

Compositions reception at the Kirksville Arts Center in downtown Kirksville, January 23, 2014.

Artists from near and a little bit farther south in Missouri joined forces for an art reception in downtown Kirksville Thursday evening.

â??Compositions" will be on exhibit January 23rd through February 28th at the Kirksville Arts Center. The exhibit features fiber, metal and wood pieces by both local and non-local artists, as well as a few student artists.

Sharon Pritchard organized this exhibit, and she told KTVO she wanted to feature more three-dimensional sculptures.

We spoke with one of the sculpture artists featured, and he shared his inspiration for his work.

â??You know my work is kind of figurative abstract, you can see the figure in some of them but there's an abstract quality to them, obviously. I work with line and composition and all the various aspects that go to make sculpture,â?? says artist Larry Young.

Young has larger scale work displayed on Truman State Universityâ??s campus and he also has a studio based out of Columbia, Missouri.

For a look at â??Compositions,â?? visit the gallery on South Franklin Street. The gallery will be open for business on Thursdays and Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. and Fridays from 1-7 p.m.
