Since 1990, more than 100 million boys and girls in 130 countries have experienced love through the power of a simple shoebox.
Kirksville residents gathered to celebrate Operation Christmas Child where Vladimir Foreman shared how a simple shoebox changed his life.
Vladimir grew up in an orphanage in Russia and now lives here in the United States. He spoke about how receiving a gift-filled shoebox impacted his life, and can impact the lives of needy children around the world.
â??It was like for the first time in my life I had felt that someone had actually loved me and cared for me, to actually give me a gift,â?? said Vladimir. â??And to pack a gift, put stuff in it and give it to me without even knowing who I was. It was a huge life-changer for me because it was like after that day I no longer felt depressed, I felt like wow. Somebody really loves me, somebody really cares about me, there's hope out there.â??
There will be about 3,000 shoeboxes collected in the Kirksville area for needy children, making Christmas a little brighter for millions of children around the world.
