A volunteer group builds a Heartland couple's first home
Volunteers from Kirksville Area Habitat for Humanity are in the process of completing one of their latest projects.
The Wilsons of Kirksville spent Saturday afternoon helping volunteers build their first house at 419 South Baird Street in Kirksville.
Lennie Wilson and her husband are both physically disabled and she says the gesture shows the good in people.
â??It's amazing. I never thought this would happen. As far as Iâ??m concerned, we won the lottery when this happened because I never dreamed I would own my own house. To own my own house is amazing,â?? said Wilson.
The Kirksville Area Habitat for Humanity is a habitat development group focusing on the construction of modest, adequate housing.
The group has been working on the Wilsons' new home since late May.
The home is expected to be ready for â??move-inâ?? this winter.
â??You can have a miracle happen to you like weâ??ve had. You never know,â?? said Wilson.
