Accused rapist now faces additional charges

Michael Parrish has been charged with a felony count of unlawful use of a weapon

An Adair County man already facing a rape charge, now has another charge against him.

Michael Parrish, 37, of Novinger, has been charged with a felony count of unlawful use of a weapon and a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.

According to court papers, Kirksville police were called to a Smith Street residence in connection with an argument between two people involving a knife.

The victim told police that Parrish had told her he was going to put her six feet under and no one would miss her. He then allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and approached the victim. She also claimed Parrish had abused her in the past. This incident alerted police to the warrant on an unrelated rape charge pending against Parrish.

Parrish was in court Wednesday on the rape charge. He asked for a bond reduction, which was taken under advisement by Judge Kristie Swaim.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on the rape charge on July 10.
