ACHS announces Senior Find-a-Friend adoption drive

The Adair County Humane Society just launched their first ever Senior-Find-A-Friend adoption drive.

This adoption drive has advantages for senior citizens as well as senior pets.

â??We are offering benefits for older people and older dogs,â?? said ACHS Board Member, Bridget Thomas. â??For older people, anyone 55 or older can adopt any animal at the shelter for half price. Any older animals which we are identifying as animals 5 years or older can be adopted at half price.â??

The shelter currently houses about 130 animals, and with this new campaign, they are hoping to place many of those animals in homes during this adoption drive.

â??We still need to have people fill out an application, itâ??s a one page, 10 questions application,â?? Thomas said. â??They need to be approved for an adoption, but after that we offering a special incentive to get some animals out of the shelter and into homes this summer.â??

The normal costs for adoptions are $70 for cats, $85 for dogs, $100 for purebreds, $25 for puppies, and $20 for kittens. A deposit fee of $40 is required for all puppies and kittens; that amount is refunded once the animal has been spayed or neutered.

You can either call the Adair County Humane Society at 660-665-8038 or email them at if you are interested in adopting.
