Overnight rain along with melting snow helped to contribute to flooding around Adair County Thursday.
Streets and yards in Novinger and Kirksville were covered with standing and running water due to the flooding around the area. Rain and saturated ground caused many ditches in Northeast Missouri to overflow onto the roadways. Mo-DOT had several crews working the flooded areas to help drain the excess water. When driving on water-covered roads, it's important to remember that it only takes six inches of water to wash your vehicle off the roadway.
The depth of water on the road is not always obvious and can be especially hard to see at night.
