The Adair County Humane Society has received a new donation of $1,000.
The Humane Society teamed up with Colton's Steakhouse in Kirksville to host a fundraiser. Ten percent of the checks from one evening were donated to the Shelter. With news that the Shelter could possibly close due to lack of funds, animal lovers stepped up to help.
"I think it really hit home for a lot of people and like I said, people just showed up, standing room only for most of the three hours, so it was a very great night," said Rick Steele, a member of the Kirksville City Council.
Many funding issues for the Shelter have to do with seasonal adoption lows. Much of the shelter's income comes from citizen donations and pet adoptions. In weeks since the shelter announced financial distress, community organizations have come together to help. They are continuing to make progress when it comes to raising funds to keep operations going.
