It was a very successful year for a few Heartland organizations that made sure some kids had a great Christmas.
The Kirksville Loyal Order Moose Lodge #751 and the Women of the Moose Lodge Chapter 824 have been working along with the Kirksville Fire Department for the annual Adopt A Child Program for the past 8 years.
The groups teamed up to hold a benefit back in November to collect money and items for 300 to 400 underprivileged children in the Adair County community.
This year they raised a little over $6,000 for the program.
"It's very rewarding to know you can do something like this. Many of us have involved our children and realized the benefit and can take that home too. It's something our children can continue to do in their grown up lives. It's a very rewarding project and really enjoy the smiles on their faces," said Adopt A Child Organizer Leann Gleason.
$900 of the money raised came from a raffle to win a John Deere tractor.
Items that were bought or donated by the community were clothing, toys and food.
