Ahead of sentencing, Techel seeks new trial
The lawyer for an Agency, Iowa man convicted of killing his pregnant wife is seeking a new trial.
Online court records indicate that Seth Techel's attorney filed a motion Tuesday asking that his first-degree murder conviction be set aside and a judge order a new trial.
Gerald Feuerhelm filed the motion ahead of the next month's sentencing of Techel, who was found guilty July 24 of first-degree murder and nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy. It was his third trial following the 2012 killing of 23-year-old Lisa Techel at their home in Agency.
Sentencing for Techel was scheduled for Sept. 8, but is likely to be delayed due to the start of Gene Pilcherâ??s retrial.
Jurors at two previous trials last year had been unable to agree on a verdict, leading to mistrials.
