Animal shelter director pleads guilty to theft

A Mahaska County woman facing theft and fraud charges has pleaded guilty.

Lindsey Sime, who was the executive director of Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter in Oskaloosa, entered the plea on Monday.

In her plea, Sime acknowledged that she used the shelter's credit card to make a personal purchase.

Specifically, she bought roughly $600 worth of tires for her personal vehicle and then altered the invoice for purchase.

The charges are aggravated misdemeanors.

Her sentencing is set for March.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend that she pay a $625 fine, receive a two-year suspended sentence and make restitution.
