Mon, 28 Jul 2014 19:39:42 GMT — The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center wants you to help save the summer. The blood center is holding its annual media blood drive on Thursday. Last year, the center collected 115 units and this year, they would like to beat that number. Over the last two months, the blood center says donations have dropped off by about 20 percent. "We lose a lot of donors due to vacations and things like that and right now, a lot of things have been going on, people are busy during the summer, so right now, we actually do have an urgent need for all blood types," said Courtney Jones, Donor Relations Consultant at Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. The blood drive runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Bridge View Center. Pizza Hut is donating pizza and Subway will be supplying cookies for anyone who donates. If you need an additional incentive, a $15 HyVee gift card will be awarded every hour. The blood center will take walk-ins on the day of the drive, but you can also call ahead and schedule an appointment. To do that, call the blood center at 800-452-1097.
