Another big step for the FLATS Trail
The FLATS Trail Committee is hoping for a second sizeable grant.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is accepting grant applications for recreation trails. That grant money is coming from the Federal Highway Administration.
The flats trail committee was offered a $100,000 grant in 2010 to help kick-start the FLATS Trail Thousand Hills State Park.
The committee is hoping to receive this again to help complete phase one of the project.
"We are going to see more on how the trail will look like and it gives us experience building it, what's involved and a clear image on what the final trail will look like," said FLATS Co-Chair Royce Kallerud.
"It puts us into a position where it's a project that is going to happen. We have a ton of support. We need to get phase one in the books," said FLATS Co-Chair Dan Martin.
Phase 1 of the FLATS Trail Project includes an 80-foot bridge and a six-tenths mile trail.
The committee is hoping to get phase one finished by next summer.
