Another Kirksville employee is moving on

Kirksville Assistant City Manager Melanie Smith's last day is Friday.

One week after Public Works Director John Buckwalter retired...another Kirksville city employee is leaving.

Friday will be the last day of work for Kirksville Assistant City Manager Melanie Smith.

Smith has been working for the city for 4 and a half years.

She started as the city's community services director, then was promoted to assistant city manager two years ago.

Smith said this is a bittersweet moment and will miss working with her city co-workers.

"I definitely had a great time while I've been here. Sad to go, but we've done a lot of fun things in Kirksville in the last 4 and a half years so very happy," Smith said.

Smith and her family will be relocating to Maryville where her husband will take over as head women's basketball coach at Northwest Missouri State University.

Smith is planning to get involved in Maryville like she did during her time in Kirksville.
