It was another successful year for a Kirksville Christmas program.
The Adopt-A-Child Program has been around since 1985, and every year proves just how much the Kirksville community wants to help make sure underprivileged kids have a good Christmas. All month long, the Kirksville Fire Department, a local radio station and the division of family services collected goods such as clothing, toys and food from community members and groups to give out to about 315 kids.
"You see big smiles on kids faces. They're always glad to open a gift, get to sit on Santa's lap, and get their gift from Santa," said Jeremy Davis of the Kirksville Fire Department.
The Adopt-A-Child main event was held recently at the NEMO Fairgrounds. That's when all the donated presents were passed out. Of course, Santa Claus himself came in on a fire truck.
The fire department says the program will be back next year.
