The Macon County R-1 School District has selected an architecture firm to build a new addition to the elementary school.

Back in November, voters in the district passed the elementary school improvements levy, which permits the district to build a new classroom facility.

The architecture firm managing the project is Robert Rollings Architects.

Superintendent Scott Jarvis said they are currently in the designing phase.

Construction will start at the beginning of summer when classes end.

The new building will be used by third, fourth and fifth graders, and it will feature 15 classrooms plus an elementary library.

The bond passed by 54 percent in November's election.

The district has been working for nine years to move forward with the project.

The total cost of the new construction is around $5 million.
