Art in the Park helps kids find their artistic side

Heartland kids can learn to find their artistic side this summer.

All this month the "Art in the Park" program will be offered in various Kirksville city parks.

It's put on by the Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department and the Kirksville Arts Association.

Each week the kids will do three different art projects ranging from cultural to modern art.

"Really just an understanding of how cool art is and maybe get an appreciation for it. We really have a cool arts community. The Kirksville Arts Association is really cool but incorporating the kids with the gallery is cool for them to see how important the are," said Volunteer Shelby Thrasher.

Art in the Park will be taking place Mondays at Brashear Park, Tuesdays and Thursdays at P.C. Mills Park, Wednesdays at Jaycee Park and Fridays at Memorial Park.

The groups will always meet from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

The kids' projects will be put on display at an art show the first week in August.
