Art show to feature work of people with developmental disabilities, recovering addicts

An annual event is returning for the eleventh year.

Tuesday, April 9, The Kirksville Regional Office of The Missouri State of Mental Health is holding the "Celebrating The Artist In You" Reception and Art Show at The Moose Lodge in Kirksville.

The show will feature artwork by individuals who have developmental disabilities or recovering from alcohol and drug abuse.

Organizers say this event allows these individuals with special needs to express themselves and share it with the public."It's just amazing to see the artwork and the fellowship. Being part of the community and having the community come in and see this artwork. Just being together," said event chair Chuck Comstock.

The event is free to the public and will have local entertainment and refreshments. Many of the artists will be in attendance as well to meet and greet the public.
