      Assault suspect gets seven years in prison

      Carl Belcher, 35, of Kirksville, entered a guilty plea to second degree assault in Shelby County Circuit Court.

      A Heartland man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to a felony charge.


      Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson told KTVO, Carl Belcher, 35, of Kirksville, entered a guilty plea to second degree assault in Shelby County Circuit Court, where the case had been moved on a change of venue.


      Belcher was accused of running toward the victim with a knife after threatening the victim. Witnesses said Belcher also attempted to hit the victim with his car.


      Belcher, who had been charged as a prior and persistent offender, was sentenced to seven years in prison.
