Atlanta residents rock out for Heartland heroes

The "Rock Road Rebels" performed at Atterberry Park Thursday night.

A Heartland community has come up with a unique way to welcome home a Heartland hero.

The rainy weather Thursday evening didn't keep Atlanta residents from holding the first-ever Rock Fest as the "Rock Road Rebels" held a non-profit concert in Atterberry Park.

Residents gathered in the park to celebrate the hard work of troops, truckers and musicians alike.

Organizers originally decided to host the event to welcome soldier Chad Gladbach home from Afghanistan, but that focus quickly expanded.

â??We just felt that all troops deserve to know that they're still cared about and we still care about them. Truckers, they're incorporated because of the fact they're away from their family all the time,â?? said Rock Fest organizer Augusta Walls.

Firefighters from the Atlanta Fire Department also pitched in, volunteering to run the concession stand.

Organizers have received such positive feedback about this year's event, they plan to hold another concert next year.
