Attorney for mother charged in son's death takes issue with police investigation
MACON, Mo. —
The attorney representing a northeast Missouri mother charged in the Labor Day Weekend death of her son apparently takes issue with the police investigation regarding his client’s case.
Jace Hamblen, 4, of Macon, died after he was found unresponsive September 3, 2017. Court documents state the boy was found face down in the bathtub at his home.
The little boy’s mother, Ashley Nicole Hamblen, 31, of Macon is charged with felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child, five misdemeanor counts of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and one felony count of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana).
Ashley Hamblen is currently free on her own recognizance.
Macon County Coroner Brian Hayes told KTVO this week that the cause of death for Jace Hamblen is still under investigation. No official cause has been determined at this time.
Hamblen’s attorney, Kirk S. Zwink of Macon, provided the statement below to KTVO on Friday.
