Gas prices falling in the Heartland

Average retail gas prices are falling in Iowa and Missouri.

At the Hy-Vee gas station in Ottumwa on Friday, mid-grade fuel was $3.37 per gallon, which is six cents less than it had been on Thursday. Regular gas was $3.47, and diesel fuel was $3.89. Employees say they expect prices to continue dropping. A couple driving through Ottumwa from Kansas City, Missouri say they are feeling less pain at the pump.

â??When we first got out of Kansas City and into Iowa, they were higher than here,â?? Carrie Russell said. â??It was about $3.45, but there were some $3.69s too.â??

Missouri's gas prices are dropping at a more rapid rate, down 12 cents this week from last, and at the Hy-Vee in Kirksville, regular and mid-grade gas was $3.36 and premium fuel was $3.86. Missouri's gas is 20 cents below the national average, and Iowa's gas prices are six cents above the national average of $3.56.
