The ongoing fundraiser for a new concession stand and equipment facility at the Babe Ruth Field in Greater Ottumwa park got a big boost, thanks to a grant from the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation.
The Legacy Foundation pledged the league a challenge grant; they will match dollar-for-dollar what is raised up to $50,000. Businesses and community members donated money throughout September and that effort will continue this month.
"It went wonderful, we're still in the process of sending out 500 letters, not only to families who are involved in Babe Ruth and have been involved in Babe Ruth, but also to organizations and businesses in the community," said Holly Dommer of the Securing a Better Baseball Future Committee.
The current facility is being emptied and torn down this weekend and construction on the new one will begin next week, so everything is on schedule so far.
