Baccalaureate at OHS is a night of reflection
Over 300 students will graduate from Ottumwa High School Sunday.
About a quarter of the senior class at OHS gathered in the auditorium Wednesday evening for more of a spiritual reflection. Pastor Ron Barnett emceed the Baccalaureate service offering words of wisdom and encouraging prayers. Seniors Katie Sammons, Charlie Altfillisch and Taylor Amos shared reflective speeches on meaningful lessons they have learned in their lives thus far, also quoting Bible passages relevant to their lives.
Keynote speaker Rhonda Eakins M.A., a professor from Indian Hills Community College, gave the graduating seniors advice to take away with them as well.
Ottumwa Principal Mark Hanson says the bottom line is if you have faith in God and trust in the Lord, good things will happen.
â??Graduation is just a spiritual thing anyway, and I think starting a new chapter, you know, all that goes with that is really gonna have an impact on their lives,â?? Hanson said.
Hanson also showcased his singing and piano playing skills, performing a song called â??Press On.â?? Ottumwa Area Fellowship Churches sponsored the event.
