For hundreds of students in the Heartland, Thursday was the first day of school and that included students at Kirksville R-III Schools.
The parking lots were flooded with parents dropping off their kids, as well as with school buses full of students.
Although this is an exciting time for parents, students and teachers, the school resource officer is reminding everyone to be extra cautious while out on the roads.
â??Mainly we would like everyone to be extra, extra careful driving to and from school. We have a lot of new drivers coming in and off the campus, so we just really need to pay attention to the signs and the way the traffic flows. Slow down. I'm sure we will be working some fender benders, but just be careful is the main thing,â?? said Kirksville RIII Resource Officer Rich Harden.
A number of other districts start school next Wednesday in Missouri and Iowa.
Truman State University classes begin next Thursday.
