Dirty deed in Ottumwa neighborhood caught on camera

A bad deed in an Ottumwa neighborhood was caught on camera over the holiday weekend.

On Christmas Eve, Ottumwa resident Chad Lawrence said he was angry to hear a treasured vehicle from his fiancé was damaged by a hit-and-run.

Lawrence said he only had the Dodge Caliber for a year, when he said his surveillance camera captured the driver of a tan minivan backing into the driver's side of his parked Caliber. After that, he said the suspect drove away.

Lawrence believes the suspect had just robbed his neighbor's home and was on their way out. Neighbors told Lawrence they returned home from a Christmas party that night, and noticed their laptop, tablet and cell phone were missing. Unfortunately, Lawrence said his neighbors did not recognize the tan minivan.

Lawrence told KTVO this isn't the first theft in the neighborhood, which is why he recently installed two surveillance cameras on his garage.

"It helps my neighborhood if anything happens around here…so I guess, in a way I’m kind of the neighborhood watch guy,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence is asking anyone who sees a vehicle matching the description of the tan van to contact the Ottumwa Police Department.
