Bank robbery suspect caught, another still free

Authorities have arrested one man and have issued a warrant for another in connection to the Community First Credit Union bank robbery earlier this summer.

Ryan Nicholas Zasareti, 21, of Humboldt, Illinois, has been charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree.

After being arrested in Charleston, Illinois, Zasareti is being transported to the Wapello County Jail where he faces $100,000 cash only bond.

Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a second person involved in the robberies..

That individual is Morris Dean Thompson III, also of Humboldt.

Authorities are asking for your help in locating Thompson.

He is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities ask you to call 911 if he is observed.

They two men are also suspected for the Wayland State Bank Robbery and another bank robbery in Kentucky.

Currently, both Thompson and Zasareti have only been charged with the one robbery in Ottumwa, Iowa.

On August 9, 2010 at approximately 9:46 AM, the Ottumwa Police Department received a call that the Community First Credit Union located at 235 Richmond Avenue in Ottumwa, Iowa was robbed by an unknown person. Community First Credit Union personnel reported at the time that a white male wearing a white short sleeve shirt, gray dress pants, dark colored tie, and a white baseball type hat demanded money from a teller and then fled the credit union with an unknown amount of money.

On September 21, 2010, investigators with the Ottumwa Police Department, Mt. Pleasant Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation followed up on several leads in the Charleston, Illinois area. Following the execution of several search warrants and the recovery of some of the money, the following person was arrested in Charleston, Illinois and charged with the robbery:

Ryan Nicholas Zasareti, 518 Walnut Street, Humboldt, Illinois, 21 Year of Age

Zasareti has been charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree in violation of 711.2 of the Code of Iowa (Class B Felony). Zasareti waived extradition and is being transported back to Iowa by Ottumwa Police Department investigators where he will be held in the Wapello County Jail with bail set at $100,000.00.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a second person involved in the robbery. Police in Iowa and Illinois are asking the public for help in locating the following person:

Morris Dean Thompson III,718 Jefferson Street, Humboldt, Illinois, White/Male/26 Years of Age

Thompson has been charged with Aiding & Abetting Robbery in the 1st Degree in violation of 703.1 and 711.2 of the Code of Iowa (Class B Felony). Thompson should be considered armed and dangerous, and the public is cautioned not to approach him, but to call 911 or their nearest law enforcement agency if he is observed. Thompson was last known to be driving an older motorcycle.

Agencies participating in the investigation and arrest include the Ottumwa, Iowa Police Department; Mt. Pleasant, Iowa Police Department, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation; Charleston, Illinois Police Department; and, Mattoon, Illinois Police Department. Investigators are continuing their investigation into two similar bank robberies in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and one in Kentucky.
