Battle of the Badges Blood Drive in Macon

The demand for blood donations is on the rise.

And the annual Battle of the Badges event is the next opportunity for you to donate.

Macon Police and Fire crews are teaming up with the American Red cross to hold the drive.

Each department will try to recruit more than the other for a little friendly competition.

The winner gets bragging rights and a traveling trophy.

The event will take place Friday, July 25th at the Comfort Inn (1821 North Missouri Street) in Macon from 1-6pm.

â??Itâ??s very important that we get everybody out and get as much of the blood supply as we can so that there are no shortages when the time comes and itâ??s needed,â?? said Captain Jeff Skjeveland, with the Macon Fire Department.

A blood donor card or driverâ??s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

Appointments are not required but can be scheduled online or by phone (1-800-733-2767).

NOTE: individuals who are 17 years of age that weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
