With the warmer weather this summer, the Beach Ottumwa had another great season.
Ottumwa Parks Director Gene Rathje told KTVO today that attendance was high, just like the temperatures, which helped out with the park's financial situation.
The water park is now going to focus on getting another new attraction, a lazy river.
"We made a profit of $38,000 in July, that is pretty good. At the end of our fiscal year in June, we only lost $109,000; so for the Beach Ottumwa it is a reasonable deficit. We are looking to the future now. We are going to start talking about fundraising for the lazy river in the off-season. That is the next step and it is what everyone wants for the beach. So, $2.5 million, it will not be easy to fundraise, but we have groups around town that have the money and I think we just have to approach them properly," Rathje said.
The Beach Ottumwa is still open in the winter months, hosting swimming tournaments and birthday parties.
