Beach Ottumwa preparing for first wave of swimmers
For Heartland students, school is winding down which also means that the Beach Ottumwa will soon be opening for the season!
Beach manager Gene Rathje said Memorial Day weekend last yearâ??s temperature was in the 90â??s and the Beach saw hundreds of people.
This year is looking to be very different because of the cooler temperatures.
The Beach will not be opened as planned on Saturday and Sunday because of the cooler temperatures; Memorial Day is still up in the air and you are asked to call before you come.
Rathje said thereâ??s a lot to look forward to this year.
â??We just renovated the outdoor concessions area. We put a concrete floor in there and a chain link fence around it. That was destroyed last year by the windstorm in June and then we also just painted the wave pool as you can see, it's just about perfect. We had local contractor paint the wave pool so we've got that up to 100%,â?? said Rathje.
The Beach will be closed to the public from May 28-May 31 and open again on the weekend of June 1and again closed to the public June 3-7. The Beach will officially open for the season June 8.
