Benefit for Centerville mayor to go on as scheduled

Family and friends of the late Mayor James (Jim) Senior will continue with the fundraiser previously organized for Saturday, August 10 at 6 p.m. at the Manhattan Steakhouse in Centerville.

â??We had initially intended for the fundraiser to include Jimâ??s family and friends to come together to show support for the Senior family,â?? eventâ??s coordinator, Ami Hamilton said. â??Unfortunately, Jim was called away before the event. The family has determined, however, that it will continue with the fundraiser and add to the evening a celebration of Jimâ??s life and contributions to Appanoose County.â?? The late Jim Senior, 70, passed away on August 1, 2013. He was mayor of the City of Centerville. The fundraiser will include a meal, free-will donations, and a raffle. Net proceeds will go to community projects selected by the Senior family as those near to Jimâ??s heart. â??Itâ??s a challenge to think of many community projects or concerns for which Jim was not involved,â?? says Hamilton, a long-time family friend. â??Rotary Club, the Drake Public Library, the Centerville Chamber of Commerce, Rathbun Lake Association, Appanoose Community Railroad, the First Presbyterian Church, community betterment and economic development. The list goes on and on as Jim was never shy to jump in and champion a project or program that could better his native southern Iowa.â?? The event begins at 6 p.m. and the public is invited to attend to show support for the Senior Family and to share memories of Jim. Those unable to attend may leave contributions at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank for the â??Jim Senior Memorial Fund.â?? To assist the family with the event, please call Ami Hamilton, 641-895-1724.
