Benefit helps Heartland man recover from stroke

An entire community came together to benefit Brett Jackson and his family.

An entire community came together to benefit Brett Jackson and his family.

Brett has been a lifelong resident of the La Plata community, and has suffered two massive strokes in the last year and is unable to work.

The La Plata and Kirksville communities teamed up for a benefit auction and dinner.

We spoke with the Jackson family pastor, and he tells us Brett, his wife and two children are all true servants.

"Well you could ask for a better people to pastor, they have a servant's heart, they're generous people and they love to see God get the glory in their lives for all the good that he does," said Jeremy Broach, Cornerstone Church pastor.

The benefit was a collaborative effort from individuals, companies and churches around the La Plata and Kirksville areas.

At last check the benefit collected close to $24,000 dollars just from the auction alone, not including food and regular donations.

Brett's mother says the family's hearts are breaking wide open for all the generosity of love and care they're receiving. Brett is doing exceptionally well contrary to what doctors have been predicting.

100-percent of the proceeds go directly to the Jackson family.
