One Heartland school district is challenging their students beyond the books.
Milan Schools have received a Healthy Kids Grant which promotes students to live healthier lives.
Wednesday morning, students received healthy snacks upon their arrival to school.
Letters were also handed out to students in grades K-8 asking parents to allow the students to ride their bikes or walk to school.
??I believe that even if we don't apply for the grant in the future, this will be something that we as a district will try to do in the future. We want to encourage our children to make healthy choices and be physically fit so this is a great way to do that,?? said Elementary Principal, Tennille Banner.
This year is the very first year Milan schools have participated in Bike to School.
There were a total of 60 students who signed up to participate in the initiative.
