Bloomfield approves streetscape plans
BLOOMFIELD, Iowa —
The Bloomfield square is getting a makeover after all.
During its regular meeting Thursday night, the Bloomfield City Council approved plans for streetscape.
The $3 million project will restructure the sidewalks and streets in and around the courtyard.
The plan is to start with the north, south and west sides of the square.
Highway 63 is still up in the air.
City and county officials don’t see eye to eye on streetscape.
Supporters say it will attract more to the area.
At least two Davis County supervisors are afraid it will minimize parking.
The project is moving forward with or without county support.
Bloomfield has roughly $600,000 worth of grant money, and there’s a limited time to use it.
The first order of business: bidding.
The process starts this Wednesday.
City Clerk Sandy Jones said construction could begin as early as this fall.
