      Bloomfield man fatally shot outside Ottumwa

      Law enforcement officials are investigating a death at this home outside Ottumwa.

      UPDATE: Investigators have now officially ruled the death of Clinton Leedom, 49, of Bloomfield a homicide.

      That ruling came after an autopsy Tuesday at the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office.

      The Wapello County Sheriff's Office said Leedom was shot to death early Monday morning at a home four miles southeast of Ottumwa.

      Authorities said Leedom died from a single gunshot wound to the chest and neck area.

      The sheriff's office won't say yet if they know who pulled the trigger, but they did say it was an isolated incident and they don't believe anyone else is in danger.

      State and local investigators are looking into a fatal shooting that happened in the early morning hours of Monday.

      The Wapello County Sheriff's Office identifies the victim as Clinton Gus Leedom, 49, of Bloomfield.

      At approximately 1:20 a.m. Monday, authorities received a 911 call of a shooting at 4367 91st Avenue, which is about four miles southeast of Ottumwa.

      When deputies arrived at the residence, they found Leedom unresponsive.

      They discovered he suffered a gunshot wound.

      Leedom's body has been taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny.

      An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

      The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Lab Team is assisting the Wapello County Sheriff's Office with the case.

      The sheriff's office told KTVO Leedom's death was not a suicide.

      A spokeswoman said no suspect is in custody at this time, but investigators emphasize that this appears to be an isolated incident.

      They don't believe anyone else is in danger.

      The sheriff's office said this is an ongoing death investigation, and they are awaiting autopsy results before proceeding.
