Body found along US 70 in Columbia

Columbia police are investigating after a body was found along Interstate 70.

Authorities received calls two calls Saturday reporting a large amount of blood, clothing and a shoe along the westbound lanes of the highway. Investigators say it appears the victim was hit by a car.

Investigators have tentatively identified the body as that of a 36-year-old Columbia man. But Columbia police Sgt. Curtis Perkins told the Columbia Daily Tribune they're withholding the name until tests can reach a positive identification.

Perkins says the preliminary ID was based on documents foundnearby.
