Boy dies from shot to face, suspected gunman charged with murder
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
A 16-year-old boy who was shot in November has died, and the suspected gunman charged with murder.
Venhure Y. Tsegay, 18, of Ottumwa, was charged Tuesday with first degree murder in the shooting death of Christian Madueno, also of Ottumwa. Madueno died on Christmas day as a result of his injuries.
Police say Tsegay and Calvin A. Luckett, 21, robbed Madueno on Nov. 29, then Tsegay shot Madueno in the face with a handgun several hours later. Both Tsegay and Luckett were charged with first degree robbery.
Tsegay was also charged initially with attempted murder, which has now been upgraded to a murder charge upon Madueno’s death.
Tsegay is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on $500,000 cash-only bond.
