The Missouri State Highway Patrol is joining statewide efforts with other Missouri law enforcement agencies for their aggressive â??Click It Or Ticketâ?? initiative.
The initiative is to get more motorists to buckle up and save more lives. Although there is evidence proving the benefits of wearing a seat belt, nearly one in four Missouri drivers are still not making it click.
â??This year, we are stepping up that enforcement,â?? Sergeant Brent Berhardt said. â??Certainly we'll be holding "Click It Or Ticket" enforcement campaigns throughout the year, aggressively again trying to educate motorists to get them to buckle up. Last year when we saw the increase in the amount of traffic fatalities in our state, 64-percent of all those people that were killed did not have their seat belt on.â??
Although not wearing your seat built is a secondary violation, meaning law enforcement cannot stop you solely for not wearing it, Bernhardt tells us they definitely save lives.
