Businesses recognized for hiring Missouri veterans

Three Heartland employers are being recognized for hiring those who have served our country.

Governor Jay Nixon's "Show Me heroes" program presented Adair County, Kraft Foods and Maritz Research the "Flag of Freedom" Award at the Missouri Career Center in Kirksville Wednesday afternoon.

This award recognizes Missouri employers that have hired Missouri veterans to help them reconnect with their careers after returning from serving.

Representatives from the Show Me Heroes Program are very proud of businesses and the northeast Missouri community for all that they have done.

"It's the reason I get out of bed every day. We could not do what we do or what we've been able to accomplish without employers and communities like northeast Missouri," said Show Me Heroes Director Lt. Jon Berry.

The award includes a part of an American Flag worn on the uniform of a Missouri National Guardsman who served.

Since 2010, the Show Me Heroes program has helped 4,000 Missouri veterans get jobs with 3,000 employers.
