A two-vehicle crash on Highway 63 in Macon County leaves a northeast Missouri man dead.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the crash happened at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 63 and Route M in Atlanta.
Investigators said a car driven by Billy Lent, 64, of Atlanta was eastbound on Route M when he attempted to cross Highway 63 and pulled into the path of an oncoming pickup truck driven by John Newland, 20, of Kirksville.
Both vehicles came to rest on the side of Highway 63.
Lent was pronounced dead at the scene by Macon County Coroner Brian Hayes.
Newland received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center for treatment.
This same intersection has been the scene of a least one previous fatal crash.
Several months ago, MoDOT had added flashing red lights to the stop signs on Route M on both sides of Highway 63 to draw drivers?? attention to the fact that they needed to stop.
