Cardinal schools upgrade science program
ELDON, Iowa —
The Cardinal Community School District is incorporating new technology that's designed to keep students engaged.
Last month, the district decided to partner with discovery education, which is an online science textbook that allows students to take quizzes, watch videos and participate in virtual labs.
The technology received positive feedback after a successful trial period at the start of the year.
"This tool allows kids to go further with their learning independently than a textbook would allow them to do,” said Cardinal science teacher Sheila Fetter. “Before, it would've been that you had to go to the library or you had to find other resources on your own. Now they're already linked in."
On Thursday, students tried out a virtual weather lab on the site that was paired with an interactive video.
Students can access the website from home with a username and password.
Fetter added that teachers can also monitor student activity, and keep track of their performance on the material and quizzes.
